Strap: Filzah to meet Krittwika in women’s final
Gandhidham, May 4: Surat’s prolific paddler Aayush Tanna started off the new season in style by capturing the double crown at the Microsign 1st Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament which is ongoing from May 2 to 5 at the SAG Sports Complex, Sidsar in Bhavnagar.
The season-opener tournament is organised by Bhavnagar District Table Tennis Association under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) and the title is sponsored by Microsign Products and the tournament is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG).
The second seed Aayush got past fifth seed Janmeyjay Patel of Aravalli 4-1 to grab the boys U-19 title. Top seed Arman Shaikh had to settle for third place after his convincing 3-0 victory over third seed Himansh Dahiya.
In the boys U-17 final, second seed Aayush met top seed Janmejay for the second time in the day and the result was no different from the first time. The 17-year-old Surti crushed the Aravalli paddler 3-1 to walk away with the ultimate prize. Fourth seed HImansh beat third seed Abhilaksh Patel 3-1 to take the third place on the podium.
The women’s final will see the unseeded Krittwika Sinha Roy of Surat take on her city mate and 1oth seed Filzah Kadri. In the semis, former India paddler Krittwika dispatched eight seed Arnee Parmar 4-0 while the 20-year-old Filzah upset the third seed Oishiki Joardar of Ahmedabad to book her final’s berth.
Continuing his winning streak, the 14th seed Pratham Madlani of Vadodara defeated second seed Soham Bhattacharya of Ahmedabad 4-1 to secure his place in the men’s final where he will have his task cut out against fourth seed Chitrax Bhatt of Ahmedabad who toppled the top seed and his city mate Akshit Salva 4-3 in a mouth-watering clash.
