Pratham shows 3rd seed Arman the door

Gandhidham, May 3: Vadodara’s 14th seed Pratham Madlani overcame a two-game deficit to outclass third seed Arman Shaikh 3-2 in their men’s pre-quarterfinal encounter at the Microsign 1st Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2024 which will be held from May 2 to 5 at the SAG Sports Complex, Sidsar in Bhavnagar.

The season-opener tournament is organised by Bhavnagar District Table Tennis Association under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) and the title is sponsored by Microsign Products and the tournament is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG).

The 19-year-old Pratham, who trains at SAG-Tapti Valley TT High-Performance Center in Surat, continued his forward march with a 3-1 victory over his city mate and seasoned player Jalay Mehta in the quarterfinals thus booking his semis berth.

Akshit Salva, top seed in men’s event, too entered the semi-final after a 3-1 win over ninth seed Monish Dedhia of Ahmedabad. Fourth seed Chitrax Bhatt and second seed Soham Bhattacharya (both from Ahmedabad) also sealed their last four berths after easy wins.

11th seed Taksh Kothari of Surat upset sixth seed Dwij Bhalodia of Ahmedabad 11-7, 11-8,11-5 in the boys’ U-17 pre-quarterfinals. He, however, could not continue his winning run as he lost his quarterfinal tie to third seed Abhilaksh Patel of Ahmedabad.

Top seed Janmejay Patel of Aravalli, fourth seed Himansh Dahiya of Ahmedabad and second seed Ayush Tanna of Surat also booked their boys U-17 semi-final berths.

Meanwhile, Ahmedabad’s Kausha Bhairapure will start as the top seed in the women’s event while Bhavnagar’s Namna Jayswal and Ahmedabad’s Oishiki Joardar will be second and third seeds respectively.
