Veteran national champions Malay, Prassuna, Sonal start favourites in 2nd State Masters TT meet
Ahmedabad, Feb.09: Veteran national champions Malay Thakkar of Surat will start as favourite in the men’s 49+ category of the Gopal Namkeen 2nd Gujarat State Masters Table Tennis Tournament organised by Table Tennis Association of Ahmedabad under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association and Gujarat State Veterans Table Tennis Committee at the Spinters Club in Ahmedabad on February 10 and 11.
Thakkar is expected to face stiff competition from top seed Gaurang Doshi.
The tournament is co-sponsored by The Bhuj Mercantile Co-operative Bank LTD while the venue partner is Spinters Club and equipment support is by Stiga.
Former state champion Malay Parikh remains top contender in the men’s 39+ event however top seed Viral Patel of Surat and Bhinnang Kothari of Vadodara will pose a stiff challenge in this event.
Both Malay Thakkar and Malay Parikh missed participation in the First Gujarat State Masters Ranking held in Gandhinagar on January 6 and 7 due to their prior commitments and both are expected to shine in this meet.
Veteran national champion in women’s 39+ and top seed Prassuna Parekh is expected to walk away with top honours.
Another veteran national champion in fray is Sonal Joshi who is a former state champion and is expected to pocket the women’s 49+ title.
