Surat, June 6 : On Monday, the 3rd day of the 1st Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2022, sponsored by Tapti Valley International School and STIGA, organised by Surat District Table Tennis Association (SDTTA) under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association held at the Tapti Valley International School, Surat, it was a day of disappointment as the top 3 seeded paddlers couldn’t make it to the quarter finals.
While on Sunday, Himansh Dahiya the 5th seed lost against the unseeded Sujal Kakadiya (Bhavnagar) in the very first round of U-19 Boys Singles, the upset continued for the next day in the U-19 Girls Singles too.
Namna Jayswal of Bhavnagar is seeded 1 in U-19 Girls who lost in the Pre-quarters against the 16th seeded Siddhi Bulsara (Navsari), 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 5-11.
Surat’s own and the hope Afrein Murad and the 2nd seed of the U-19 category couldn’t make it against the unseeded Anushka Pandey of Baroda, 18-16, 9-11, 8-11, 9-11.
Similarly, the third seed of U-19 Girls, Mili Tanna the other hope of Surat was edged by the 14th seed Moubini Chatterjee (Ahmedabad), 11-5, 8-11, 8-11, 10-12.
In the Hope Boys Singles, Taksha Shah of Ahmedabad wins the first place beating Hridan Patel (Surat) who settled for the second place. While Namhyaa S. Jariwala settles for the third place beating Krishnav Gupta (Surat).
Apart from this, Moubini Chatterjee of Ahmedabad also did well in the Womens Singles Pre-Quarters and overcame Shelli Patel (Baroda), 10-12, 13-11, 11-5, 11-9. And beats Daniya Godil (Surat) in the Quarter Finals in Cadet (U-13) Girls Singles, 11-4, 11-5, 11-7.
Krisha Patel, Surats favorite, also moved on to Semis after winning over Vincy Tanna (Surat), 11-4, 11-1, 11-2.
Surats sunshine, Filzah Kadri brushed Mili Tanna(Surat) by 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 and had a comfortable win in the pre-quarters of Women’s Singles. While the rising star Pratha Pawar(Ahmedabad) faced a little hassel battling Prathna Parmar (Bhavnagar), 7-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-5, 11-0.
Frenaz chipia, ‘the daughter of Surat’ too had an easy win against Purvanshi Acharya (Ahmedabad), 11-4, 11-8, 11-6.
On the other hand, local boy Shlok Bajaj makes it to the Semis in the Category of Junior (U-17) Boys Singles battling Malav Panchal (Ahmedabad), 12-14, 11-5, 11-6, 11-6, 11-3 and in Junior (U-19) Boys Singles after beating Smitraj Gohil (Bhavnagar), 11-7, 11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 11-6. While he also moved on for the Quarter Finals hassel free in the Men’s Singles after beating Pratham Madlani (Baroda), 11-6, 11-9, 11-6, 11-9, in the Pre-Quarters.
