IOCL 5th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2021 – Vadodara

VADODARA, Nov. 20: Vansh Modi brought cheer to the local crowd as he and Ahmedabad’s Pratham Mehta reached the main rounds in the Sub Junior (U-15) and Cadet (U-13) Boys’ categories at the IOCL 5th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2021 that is being organized by The Table Tennis Association of Baroda under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) at the Sama Indoor Sports Complex in Vadodara from November 20th to 22nd.

In the under-15 qualifiers, Vadodara’s Vansh edged out Ahmedabad’s Vihaan Tiwari 11-8, 5-11, 11-6, 11-7 before brushing aside Surat’s Manan Agarwal 11-3, 11-8, 11-5 to make it to the main draw of the tournament, co-sponsored by GAIL, ONGC, GSFC, GACL and STIGA.

Pratham, on the other hand, turned the tables around as he came from behind to beat Bhavnagar’s 8-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-0, 11-7 before registering an 11-2, 11-4, 11-7 win over Surat’s Tejpreetsingh Khurana to secure the main draw berth.

In the under-13 qualifiers, Vansh edged out Surat’s Harshiv Jagirdar 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 11-5 before surviving a mid-game collapse to record an 11-1, 11-4, 8-11, 9-11, 11-6 win over Ahmedabad’s Parva Vyas to secure a place in the main draw.

Meanwhile, Pratham faced little hassle in wins over Vadodara’s Akshar Jethva (11-3, 11-9, 11-5) and Bhavnagar’s Vandan Sutaria (11-5, 11-5, 11-5) to seal the deal.

But the opening day belonged to a resilient Monish Dedhia of Ahmedabad who survived a close encounter to make it to the main draw in the Men’s singles.

Monish came from a game down to beat Vadodara’s Dr Urmil Jambusaria 10-12, 11-1, 11-7, 11-0. In the do-or-die decider against Bhavnagar’s Devarsh Vaghela, Monish came out from the brink to record an 11-7, 10-12, 8-11, 11-9, 11-3 win to seal the deal.

Vadodara’s Vidit Desai too made it to Men’s main draw with wins over Surat’s Rohit Jadav (11-1, 11-6, 11-6) and Ahmedabad’s Mudit Bansal (11-3, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7).

Bhavnagar’s Karanpal Jadeja also seal the main draw berth with wins over Vadodara’s Laumit Chauhan (11-4, 11-4, 11-8) and Ahmedabad’s Kuldipsinh Mangrola (11-7, 11-5, 11-7).
