IOCL 5th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2021 – Vadodara

VADODARA, Nov. 21: Hiya Singh created a flutter as Purva Nimbalkar, Mishti Chauhan, Jahanvi Patel, Aryan Patel and Harsh Patel shone on a day of upsets at the IOCL 5th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2021 that is being organized by The Table Tennis Association of Baroda under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) at the Sama Indoor Sports Complex in Vadodara from November 20th to 22nd.
In the Junior Girls’ (U-17) pre-quarters, Ahmedabad’s Hiya brushed aside second seed Mili Tanna of Surat 11-8, 11-5, 11-8 to record the biggest win of the day in the tournament, co-sponsored by GAIL, ONGC, GSFC, GACL and STIGA.
Purva and Mishti brought cheers to the hosts with their impressive wins on the day. Unseeded Purva held on her own as she beat sixth seed Bhavya Jayswal of Surat 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-2 to move into the Women’s quarters while Mishti twice came from behind to beat eighth seed Moubini Chatterjee of Ahmedabad 4-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 12-10 in the Sub Junior Girls’ (U-15) pre-quarters.
Jahanvi Patel turned the tables around as the youngster from Navsari also moved into the under-15 quarters with a 7-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8 win over seventh seed Sara Arora of Baroda.
In the Sub Junior Boys’ (U-15) pre-quarters, Ahmedabad’s Aryan Patel shocked sixth seed Vivaan Dave of Surat 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 12-10 while Ahmedabad’s Harsh Patel shocked third seed Ayush Tanna of Surat 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5 in the Junior Boys’ (U-17) pre-quarters.
Meanwhile, the other seeds Women’s, U-15 Boys’ and Girls’ and U-17 Girls’ and Boys’ faced little hassle as they booked their quarterfinal berths.
