Manush, Frenaz crowned champions in Gandhidham

Ahmedabad win overall team trophy at State and Inter-District Championships 2019

Manush Shah and Frenaz Chipia were crowned champions Men’s and Women’s champions respectively at the Late Mahendraray Dulerai Buch State and Inter-District Championships 2019 at KDTTA Sports Complex Adipur on Sunday. Ahmedabad district lifted the overall trophy after paddlers bagged 10 medals, including five gold.

In the Men’s final, Vadodara-based Manush faced Dhairya Parmar of Ahmedabad. Bringing his international experience into play, the left-hander paddler, Manush, with his heavy back-spin and no-spin service breezed to an early 3-0 lead. Dhairya did had had his moments in the fourth game when he reduced the margin to 3-1. However, Manush with his placements and backhand returns won the match 12-10 11-6 11-9 5-11 11-7 to be crowned champion.

Gandhidham trip was fruitful for Manush as he also stood on top of the podium in the Youth Boys section. Playing aggressive game, Manush beat Chitrax Bhatt of Ahmedabad 11-5 11-8 11-9 11-4 in a relatively one-sided final.

Surat’s Frenaz too defended her Women’s title without much sweat. She faced Bhavnagar’s Prarthna Parmar, a repeat of season opener in Surat five months ago. And the result was no different as Frenaz cantered to victory with a 11-8 11-6 7-11 11-8 11-8 scoreline.

Namna Jayswal of Bhavnagar was Youth Girls champion at the expense of Ahmedabad’s Kausha Bhairapure. Namna won 11-9 11-9 11-6 9-11 11-8.

Ahmedabad Crowned overall Champions

Ahmedabad paddlers rocked the five-day competition with ten medals, including five gold. Ahmedabad’s Junior Boys team, Pratha Pawar (Cadet girls), Himansh Dahiya (Cadet Boys), Harsh Patel (Sub Jr Boys) and Chitrax Bhatt (Jr Boys). Surat too bagged five gold but Ahmedabad had better number of silver medals.

Mixed Doubles

Chitrax and Frenaz were crowned mixed doubles champion. Playing some aggressive game combined with heavy top-spin and backhand returns, the Ahmedabad-Surat pair dispatched duo of Kushal Sangtani and Filzahfatema Kadri 11-2 6-11 11-6 11-6.
