Ahmedabad, Surat defend team title
Ahmedabad, Sept.30 : Ahmedabad men’s team led by skipper Akshit Salva ended Aravalli’s brilliant run by defeating them 3-1 in the final thus retaining the men’s team title at the Servo Hypersport F5 Gujarat State and Inter-District Table Tennis Championships 2023 which is organized by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) from September 27 to October 2 at the SAG Sports Complex, Khokara in Ahmedabad.
Indian Oil is the title sponsor while GMDC is the associate sponsor and the tournament is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG). Stiga is the equipment partner of the tournament.
The Aravalli team had a good start after their captain Arman Shaikh beat Chitrax Bhatt in the opener. However, two wins by Soham Bhattacharya and one by Akshit saw them finish at the top rung of the podium.
In the women’s final, Surat Filzahfatema Kadri, captain Frenaz Chipia and Aafrien Murad won their respective matches with ease to help Surat register a comfortable 3-0 win over Ahmedabad and retain the title.
Aravalli team had some consolidation instore for them as they crushed Ahmedabad 3-1 to take home the junior boys crown. While in the junior girls, Ahmedabad’s dominant show continued as they got the better of Bhavnagar 3-1 to take the trophy.
Ahmedabad’s paddlers won the third team-event title when they beat Bhavnagar 3-1 in the sub-junior boy’s final.
Bhavnagar’s sub-junior girls team brought delight to the contingent by winning the only title in the team events after holding off favourites Ahmedabad 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.
In individual events, second seed Ansh Khamar of Ahmedabad will clash with top seed and citymate Jenil Patel in the cadet boy’s final. The cadet girl’s final will see the top seed Daniya Godil of Surat facing off second seed Charmi Trivedi of Bhavnagar.
Top seed Ansh entered in the Hope boys final where he will meet second seed Dev Bhatt of Rajkot.
In the Hope girls final, second seed Tanisha Deputy of Surat will take on fourth seed Khanak Shah of Ahmedabad after she upset the top seed Vincy Tanna of Surat in the semifinal match.
