AHMEDABAD, Nov. 27: Chandan Somaiya and Hetal Patel walked a different route towards the same destination as the duo from Ahmedabad booked the main draw berths at the Multimet 2nd Gujarat State Masters Table Tennis Tournament 2021 that is being organised by the TTAA under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association and Gujarat State Veteran Table Tennis Committee on November 27 and 28.
At the Ahmedabad Racquet Academy, Chandan edged out Rajkot’s Dharmaraj Jadeja 11-0, 11-9, 11-8 before turning the tables on Banaskantha’s Idrish Puvar with an 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-5 win to make it to the main draw in the Men’s 39+ singles.
On the other hand, Hetal had a battle in hand as he came from being two games down to beat Surat’s Brijesh Patel 4-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 in one of the most exciting contests of the opening day.
Hetal then edged out Anand’s Kapil Arora 11-7, 11-5, 11-4 to seal the deal.
Baroda’s Vikram Sisodiya, Ahmedabad’s Ahmed Charaniya and Surat’s Neelkanth Burkanwala also made it to the main draw.
In the Men’s 49+ singles, Gandhinagar’s Pranav Joshipura beat Ahmedabad’s Siddharajsinh (11-4, 12-10, 11-4) and Rajesh Kurup (11-1, 11-2, 11-5) while teammate Kamlesh edged out Ahmedabad’s Kaushik Soni (11-5, 11-9, 11-6) and Baroda’s Shiva Kamlakar (12-10, 11-3, 11-6) to reach the main draw.
Ahmedabad’s Shagun Sutaria also seal the main draw berth with wins over Kachchh’s Mukesh Dave (11-5, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8) and Baroda’s Vivek Shirne (11-8, 11-2, 11-9). Meanwhile, Shagun’s teammate Sanjay Tayal also moved into the main draw with wins over Baroda’s Sunil Behki (11-8, 11-6, 11-6) and Ahmedabad’s Mahendra Challani (3-11, 11-5, 14-12, 13-11).
