AHMEDABAD, Nov. 29: Local ‘boy’ Dilip Shah serves icing on the cake as the veteran star won two titles in the Men’s 69+ category at the Multimet 2nd Gujarat State Masters Table Tennis Tournament 2021 organised by the Table Tennis Association of Ahmedabad under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association and Gujarat State Veteran Table Tennis Committee.
Dilip won the 69+ singles title with a coming from behind 14-16, 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7 win over teammate KP Rathod.
It was Dilip’s second title in the tournament after he and Surat’s
Nazmi Kinkhabwala won the Men’s 69+ doubles title earlier in the day.
Rajkot’s Jagdish Pathak won the Men’s 74+ singles title with an 11-8, 8-11, 12-14, 11-7, 11-9 win over Baroda’s Rasik Dave while Bhavnagar’s KG Purohit beat Kachchh’s Prashant Buch 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 for the Men’s 64+ singles title.
It was a disappointing outing for Surat’s Malay Thakkar, who had won three titles in the 1st Gujarat State Masters Table Tennis Tournament 2021 in Modasa earlier this month.
Malay defended his Men’s 49+ singles title as he once again got better off Ahmedabad’s Hetal Shah for a 12-10, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5.
However, Malay and Kachchh’s Mahesh Hingorani could not defend their doubles crown as they were beaten by a spirited show from Anand’s Rishi Sharma and Bharuch’s LV Thakre, who recorded a 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 12-10 win in the final.
Malay and Neha also lost their Mixed Doubles 49+ title after they suffered 6-11, 9-11, 5-11 loss to Ahmedabad’s Hiral Mehta and Bhavnagar’s Sonal Joshi.
Sonal, on the other hand, maintained her dominance over Neha as she defended her Women’s 49+ singles crown with an 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 win over the latter.
Gandhinagar’s Rajesh Trivedi and Junagarh’s Mahesh Raval won the Men’s 59+ doubles title with a 12-14, 7-11, 11-1, 1-11, 11-9 win over Ahmedabad’s Ranjit Nagadia and Prakash Mojidara.
Gandhinagar’s Haresh Rathod once again won the Men’s 59+ singles title as he beat Mahesh 11-5, 11-4, 7-11, 11-9 in the final.
But the night belonged to the brother and sister duo of Rajkot’s Gaurav Doshi and Ahmedabad’s Prasunna Parekh, who won three titles each.
Gaurav enthralled the crowd as he came from being two games down to beat Baroda’s Malay Parikh 7-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 for the Men’s 39+ singles title.
Gaurav and teammate Sikandar Jam also won the Men’s 39+ doubles title as they beat Malay and Ahmedabad’s Kunal Patel 11-7, 15-13, 11-7 in the final.
Prasunna once again beat Baroda’s Sheetal Shah to win the Women’s 39+ singles title with an 11-1, 11-5, 11-7 win. While Prasunna and Sheetal joined hands to win the Women’s 39+ doubles title with a thrilling 6-11, 11-4, 5-11, 11-4, 11-6 win over Bhavnagar’s Sonal Joshi and Gandhinagar’s Divya Pandy in a closely contested final.
Both Gaurav and Prasunna had earlier won the Mixed doubles 39+ title.
