Surat pip Ahmedabad to win Overall champions’ trophy with six gold

Gandhidham, Sept.27: Top seed Chitrax Bhatt of Ahmedabad justified his top billing as he sailed past second seed Pratham Madlani of Vadodara 4-1 to clinch the men’s title on the fifth and final day of the prestigious Jodac Gujarat State and Inter-District Table Tennis Championships 2024 organised by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) at the Late MP Mittra Indoor Stadium, Haresh Sangtani Sports Complex, Adipur in Gandhidham on Friday.

The Sports Authority of Gujarat and Kachchh District Table Tennis Association (KDTTA)-supported five-day tournament, which carries maximum points in the state TT calendar, is sponsored by Jodac Shipping Line Pvt. Ltd, co-sponsored by State Bank of India, associate sponsored by Kiran Foundation, equipment sponsored by Stiga and Gandhidham Chamber of Commerce & Industries.

Surat’s prolific paddler Krittwika Sinha Roy, seeded third, toppled the top seed and her citymate Filzahfatema Kardi 4-1 to pocket the women’s title.

Third seed in U-19 boys, Arman Shaikh upset the top seed Aayush Tanna of Surat to grab the title while in the girls’ category, second seed Riya Jayswal of Bhavnagar beat the top seed Mouboni Chatterjee of Ahmedabad 4-3 in a humdinger of a contest.

Ahmedabad’s Himansh Dahiya, seeded second, won the U-17 boys title while seventh seed Pratha Pawar of Ahmedabad emerged victorious in the girls’ event.

It was a walk in the park for top seed Malav Panchal who easily won the U-15 boys title while in the girls’ category, fourth seed Daniya Godil of Surat came up with a spirited performance as she downed the top seed Mouboni to take the title.

With this, Surat district piped Ahmedabad to lay their hands on the coveted Overall Champions’ trophy with six gold medals and six silver medals.
