Triple treat for Mouboni at Baroda TT meet

14-year-old Amdavadi paddler wins girls U-15, U-17 & U-19 titles

Vadodara, July 14: Ahmedabad’s rising star Mouboni Chatterjee came up with a stupendous show as she claimed the triple crown by emerging victorious in the girls U-15, U-17 and U-19 finals on the fourth and final day of the IOCL 4th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2024, organised by Table Tennis Association of Baroda (TTAB) under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association, currently underway at the Indoor Sports Complex, Sama in Vadodara here on Sunday.

The title sponsor of the tournament is India Oil Corporation Ltd while the co-sponsors are GAIL and Bank of Baroda and is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat and UTT. Stiga is the equipment partner while VSPF is the venue partner.

The 14-year-old Mouboni, seeded 10th in the U-17 girls’ event, gave a 3-0 pasting to fourth seed and her city mate Nidhi Prajapati in the U-17 summit clash.

Continuing her domination, the third seeded Amdavadi paddler thrashed fourth seed Charmy Trivedi of Bhavnagar 3-0 to walk away with the U-15 title.

Mouboni faced stiff challenge in the U-19 final where the top seed was stretched by the second seed Riya Jayswal of Bhavnagar before closing the match 4-2 and capturing her maiden triple crown at state rankings.

Such was the domination of the Amdavadi paddler that she finished the tournament with three titles and one runners up trophy (lost the women’s final) thus making it on the podium in all the four events she took part in this meet.

In the U-15 boys final, there was no stopping for top seed Malav Panchal of Ahmedabad who came back from a game down to edge past second seed Ved Panchal of Vadodara 3-1.

The U-13 boys title was won by second seed Anay Bacchawat of Surat who defeated Nairit Vaidya of Kachchh 3-1 while top seed Daniya Godil of Surat crushed third seed Neeyati Pathak to take the U-13 girls title.

The U-11 boys title went to top seed Dhruv Brahmbhatt of Kachchh who went past the second seed Henil Langalia of Bhavnagar 3-1.

Second seed Dhimahi Kabrawala of Surat swept past the top seed Misha Lakhani of Ahmedabad 3-0 to pocket the girls U-11 title.
