At 16, Janmejay wins men’s title in state ranking

Aravalli boy also wins boys U-19 final; Frenaz gets women’s crown

Vadodara, July 13: He is just 16 but the ninth seed Janmejay Patel of Aravalli scaled great heights as took down 15th seed Ayaz Murad of Surat 4-3 to win his maiden state ranking men’s title on the third day of the IOCL 4th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2024, organised by Table Tennis Association of Baroda (TTAB) under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association, currently underway at the Indoor Sports Complex, Sama in Vadodara here on Saturday.

The title sponsor of the tournament is India Oil Corporation Ltd while the co-sponsors are GAIL and Bank of Baroda and is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat and UTT. Stiga is the equipment partner while VSPF is the venue partner.

His joy was doubled as the Aravalli boy also pocketed the boys U-19 title after he worked his way to a 4-2 victory over seventh seed Dhyey Jani of Bhavnagar.

In the women’s final, Surat’s sixth seed Frenaz Chipia took on the feisty little 14-year-old Mouboni Chatterjee of Ahmedabad. The senior paddler Frenaz won the match 4-2 but the 13th seed showed excellent grit before going down fighting.

Ahmedabad’s third seed Himansh Dahiya upset the top seed Aayush Tanna enroute to the U-17 boys title.
