Easy wins for Ahmedabad and Surat teams

Ahmedabad, Sept.27: It was an easy outing for the men’s defending champions team Ahmedabad as the seasoned Chitrax Bhatt and captain Akshit Savla registered facile wins over Amreli paddlers in the early rounds of the Servo Hypersport F5 Gujarat State and Inter-District Table Tennis Championships 2023 which is organized by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) from September 27 to October 2 at the SAG Sports Complex, Khokara in Ahmedabad.

This prestigious championship was declared open by Shri RS Ninama (IAS) Director General, Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) and was presided by Shri Vijay Jaiswal, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeal), Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

Indian Oil is the title sponsor while GMDC is the associate sponsor and the tournament is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG). Stiga is the equipment partner of the tournament.

Arch rivals Surat men’s team too picked up an easy 3-0 victory over Kachachh with captain Burhanuddin Malubhaiwala leading from the front.

Women’s defending champion team Surat defeated a highly-motivated Vadodara 3-1 as their skipper Frenaz Chipia won both her encounters. Bhavnagar women’s team too posted an impressive 3-0 win over Navsari.

In sub-junior boys’ category, Bhavnagar, Surat Ahmedabad, Vadodara all posted a comfortable 3-0 wins over their opponents.

Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad’s girls also had a smooth sailing in the early rounds of the sub-junior girls’ event.

Expressing his delight to see so many paddlers from various parts of the state, Shri R.S. Ninama,IAS said that table tennis is going really well in the state and that SAG is fully committed to extend its full support. “Gujarat had won six medals in the last National Games held in Gujarat last year. SAG aims to help state association produce more world-class players in the future,” he said.
