Spiced up State TT season to kick-off in Rajkot from today
India No. 4 in Girls U-19 Oishiki Joardar (WB) and UP’s Radhapriya Goel, India no. 19 in Women’s, to play in Gujarat from this season
Gandhidham, May 29: The 2023-24 table tennis season in Gujarat will kick-off from Tuesday as the 1st Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, sponsored by Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh and supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG), will be held at SAG Multipurpose Indoor Hall in Rajkot from May 30 to June 2.
A total of 637 entries has been registered in the tournament which is organised by the Rajkot District Table Tennis Association under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association.
This new season will see addition of two India-ranked female paddlers to Gujarat’s list of players.
West Bengal’s Oishiki Joardar, who is current India No. 4 in Girls U-19 category, has moved to Gujarat and will debut in Rajkot.
Along with her, UP’s Radhapriya Goel, India no. 19 in Women’s, too will add up the spice as she too will begin her journey with Gujarat TT from May 30.
These two paddlers will add up the competition in women’s category and it will remain to be seen if both girls can stop Gujarat top paddler FrenazChipa’s juggernaut.
In the men’s section, top-seed Chitrax Bhatt is the man to beat while in Junior boy-19, all eyes will be on top seed Burhanuddin Malubhaiwala to prove his mettle.
In Girls U-17, Bhavnagar’s Riya Jayswal gets the top seed while in Girls U-15, Ahmedabad’s MouboniChatterjee will be the paddler to watch out for.
“The last state TT tournament in Rajkot was held way back in 2021. We are happy to get over 600 entries for this meet,” organizing secretary, Hiren Mehta, said.
