Hridan loses in quarters as Gujarat challenge ends in U-11 event
Vadodara, Jan 16: Gujarat’s Hridan Patel lost in the quarterfinal of the boys U-11 event thus bringing down curtains to Gujarat’s U-11 boys’ and girls’ campaign at the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championship played at SAMA Indoor Sports Complex in Vadodara on Monday.
The 10-year-old Surat boy was blanked by V Krish (TN) 3-0 after he had put up a stupendous show in the pre-quarterfinal by crushing Dev Tripathi (UP) 3-1 to enter in his first-ever quarterfinal stage of national ranking meet. Other main-draw entrants-Ansh Khamar, Khwaish Lotia and Daniya Godil-made early exits.
Meanwhile, as many as six paddlers from Gujarat have made it to the main draw for the U-13 event.
Ahmedabad’s Malav Panchal and Surat boys Samarth Shekhawat and Manav Mehta topped their respective qualifying groups and made the cut in the boys’ event while Surat’s Daniya and Ahmedabad’s Jiya Trivedi and Mouboni Chatterjee played exceedingly well to post wins in their qualifying-round matches in the girls’ category.
