GANDHIDHAM, April 17: Kachchh’s Ishaan Hingorani and Vadodara’s Manush Shah will lead Gujarat’s charge at the 83rd Senior National and Inter State Table Tennis Championship that will be held in Shillong from April 18.
In what would be the largest ever Table Tennis Senior Nationals, 307 men and 243 women paddlers from 38 men’s and 35 women’s teams will vie for the various honours at the picturesque capital city of the beautiful Himalayan state of Meghalaya.
Ishaan, who will join the team directly from the US where he is training, could shoulder the bulk of responsibility as highly talented Manush, who is recovering from a shoulder injury, will confine himself to the men’s singles as well as the team events.
Incidentally, both Ishaan and Manush had picked the silver medal in men’s doubles at the 81st Senior Nationals in Hyderabad two years back.
With Manush treading a cautious path, the onus will lie on the talented trio from Ahmedabad – state’s junior boys’ champion Chitrax Bhatt, Dhairya Parmar and Akshit Savla – to step in and make it count.
Meanwhile, Surat’s Frenaz Chipia will lead the women’s charge in the tournament. Ahmedabad’s Kausha Bhairapure, Surat’s Filzahfatema Kadri and Bhavnagar’s Prathna Parmar and Namna Jayswal will be the other members of the team.
Kachchh’s Mihir Gandhi will coach the men’s team while Sports Authority of Gujarat’s Laveena Bhargava will helm the women’s team.
