GANDHIDHAM, Dec 23: Ishaan Hingorani, Gujarat’s top-ranked men’s player, revel in his training stint in the USA as the youngster from Kachchh won the 2021 US Open Table Tennis Championships U-2400 RR Playoff in Las Vegas while settling for the second-place finish in the U-2600 RR Playoff in the same tournament.
In the U-2400 RR Playoff final, third seed Ishaan edged out fourth seed Paul Zhenyu Qui 11-9, 14-12, 6-11, 11-9 to win the title.
Meanwhile, in the U-2600 RR Playoff, 14th seed Ishaan saw his impressive run in the event suffer a final heartbreak with a 9-11, 9-11, 2-11 loss against the top seed Tannui Zhang.
Congratulating the youngster on his commendable performance, GSTTA president Mr Vipul Mittra, IAS, said, “It was a commendable performance from our youngster. His talent is never in doubt and today he showed that at a bigger stage.”
“Our heartiest congratulations to our star performer. His U-2600 performance is heart-warming considering he competed and defeated some higher rated players on his way to the final,” GSTTA chairman Mr. Milind Torawane, IAS, said in his congratulatory message.
Ishaan is in the US to attend training sessions at Indian Community Centre in Milpitas, California.
