GANDHIDHAM, Dec. 12: Harmeet Desai and Krittwika Sinha Roy, two of the top table tennis players in the country, tied the knot at a glittering ceremony in Kolkata on December 11.
It was a mix of traditional Rajput and Bengali weddings for the duo, who had been in a relationship since 2012.
While most of their close friends from table tennis had to miss the solemn occasion owing to the National Ranking Championships in Dehradun, Harmeet’s close friend from the table tennis fraternity and world no. 38 Gnanasekaran Sathiyan was there for the marriage.
“It was an elegant ceremony with both of them exuberating radiance throughout,” one of Harmeet’s childhood friends said. “The mehendi was a family affair with Sathiyan and Olympian Soumyajit Ghosh joining in for the musical evening. Sathiyan was there for the wedding too,” he said, adding, “Sharath bhaiya (India’s top table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal), Sanil Shetty and all other top table tennis players are expected to be there for the reception that will be held in Surat on December 17.”
Family sources also hinted that some big politicians along with top Table Tennis Federation of India officials might also attend the reception in Surat.
Congratulating the newly-weds, Gujarat State Table Tennis Association president Mr Vipul Mittra, IAS, said, “Heartiest congratulations to the newly-weds. Our best wishes are with Harmeet and Krittwika as they began an important journey together. I wish them all the happiness and success in their professional career and personal life.”
