Harmeet, Sathiyan win men’s doubles title

GANDHIDHAM, Oct. 30: Harmeet Desai and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran’s partnership ended with a fairytale win as they won the men’s doubles title at the WTT Contender Tunis 2021 on Saturday.
Culminating their impressive run in the tournament, Harmeet and Sathiyan recorded a 3-1 win over the French pair of Emmanuel Lebesson and Alexandre Cassin at Salle Omnisport de Rades in Tunis, Tunisia.
In the final, Harmeet and Sathiyan won the first game 11-9 but looked to have a momentary lapse of concentration as they lost the second game 4-11. However, the duo bounced to their resilient best as they sealed the deal by winning the next two games 11-9, 11-6.
Incidentally, the relatively new pair of Harmeet and Sathiyan had shown a lot of promise in the tournament that saw them beating the likes of world no. 7 pair of Nandor Ecseki and Adam Szudi of Hungary in the semis and world no. 30 pair of Killian Ort and Tobias Hippler of Germany in the opening round.
“Congratulations to Harmeet and Sathiyan for their impressive win. They gave the country a perfect Diwali gift and raised hope for future endeavours. What is important is their resilience that has been the hallmark of their partnership,” GSTTA president Mr. Vipul Mittra, IAS, said.
