Krittwika, Harmeet, Manav reach quarters at UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships 2021 (North Zone)

GANDHIDHAM, Oct. 20: Krittwika Sinha Roy, Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar keep Gujarat flag flying as they reached the quarter-final stage at UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships 2021 (North Zone) in Panchkula, Haryana today.

In the women’s singles, Krittwika edged out TTFI’s Selena Deepthi 11-3, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 11-3 to book the quarter-final berth against promising junior Swastika Ghosh of AAI.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Harmeet Desai continued with his impressive form as he defeated Uttar Pradesh’s Abhishek Yadav 11-7, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5, 11-4. Harmeet, who is the third-best Indian in the world rankings, will face Sanil Shetty of PSPB in the quarters.

Manav Thakkar, who now represents PSPB, looked in commanding form as he beat Shubh Goel of Delhi 11-7, 11-8, 11-5, 11-7 to book a quarter berth against Sarthak Seth of TTFI.

However, it was a heartbreak for Manush Shah who put up a brave fight before suffering an 11-7, 15-13, 8-11, 8-11, 5-11, 11-6, 6-11 loss against Olympian Soumyajit Ghosh of Haryana in the pre-quarters.

Meanwhile, Frenaz Chipia suffered an 8-11, 9-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-3, 5-11 loss against RSPB’s Shruti Amrute in the Women’s singles second round while Aafrien Murad suffered a 5-11, 5-11, 4-11, 5-11 loss against AAI’s Surbhi Patwari, who incidentally shocked top seed Akula Sreeja of RBI 4-1 in the next round.

In the men’s second-round matches, Riyan Dutta lost to Sriram Sushmit of TTTA 11-9, 10-12, 6-11, 11-7, 6-11, 9-11 and Akshit Savla suffered an 8-11, 9-11, 7-11, 6-11 loss against Sanil while Ishaan Hingorani will be disappointed in his 11-6, 11-5, 8-11, 9-11, 3-11, 12-10, 9-11 loss against Tanmay Rane of Maharashtra A.

Earlier in the first round, Dhairya Parmar lost to Vidit Desai of TTFI 8-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-13, 8-11 while Chitrax Bhatt suffered an 11-7, 11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 10-12 loss against Sarthak.
