Gandhidham to host Youth & Junior State Championships as well

GANDHIDHAM, Jan.27 : Gujarat State Table Tennis Association with support of Kachchh District Table Tennis Association will organise both the phases of State Championships 2020 at Gandhidham. Decision was taken during a special Annual General Meeting of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) held on the online platform on Tuesday.

The first phase comprising Cadet, Sub Junior and Senior championships is scheduled from January 29-31 at KDTTA Indoor Stadium. The second phase, Youth & Junior State Championships 2020 will be played on February 6 & 7.

Following Table Tennis Federation of India’s (TTFI) announcement of Senior National Table Tennis Championship 2020 at Panchkula (Haryana) from February 15 to 23, GSTTA arranged Senior (Men’s and Women’s) contest in the first phase.
For a record, TTFI will conduct separate National in all five events because of the restrictions due to COVID-19.

GSTTA, too, is committed and shall follow the government guidelines during both the phases of Championships. The State association has tied up with Government hospital Gandhidham for a rapid antigen test at the venue.

“All the participants will send their RT-PCR test results in advance. Moreover, each player will undergo a test before entering the stadium. Before the match a player will have to nominate one person who will coach him during the contest. And only that person will get the entry. Parents or spectators will not be allowed inside the stadium during both the phases,” said Vipul Mittra, IAS, President GSTTA.
