Gujarat Senior Mens and Womens Team for Senior Nationals

Gujarat Men’s and Women’s team comprising ten paddlers left for the prestigious 81st Senior National & Inter-State Table Tennis Championships 2019 scheduled in Hyderabad from January 27, 2020. Bhavnagar-based Jignesh Jayswal and state champion Frenaz Chipia are leading the Men’s and Women’s teams respectively.

Before leaving for Hyderabad all the paddlers attended the Gujarat State Table Tennis Association organised and Sports Authority of Gujarat supported Pre-National Camp at Kachchh District Table Tennis Association Indoor Sports Complex in Gandhidham on Friday. The camp was held under the supervision of coaches Chintan Oza and Laveena Bhargava.

Men’s team are looking for yet another podium finish having bagged silver in the last edition. Left-handed Manush Shah of Baroda and Ishaan Hingorani of Kutch will be key to Gujarat’s medal winning performance.

Meanwhile, the Women’s team that missed a medal by whisker expressed confidence of winning first medal at the national meet. Lot will depend on Frenaz who has been on a circuit for a while now and shall shoulder the responsibility of singles matches and if required may play doubles.

On Friday, the concluding day of the camp, players were handed their Stiga kits for the Hyderabad meet.
