Gujarat Junior Boys TT Team bags Silver Medal at Jammu Nationals

Gujarat Junior Boys Team consisting of Chitrax Bhatt, Dhairya Parmar, Harshil Kothari, Abhilash Raval and coach Bhaumik Oza bagged creditable silver in the Junior Boys team event at the 81st Junior and Youth Nationals at the Indoor Hall of the M.A. Stadium in Jammu on Thursday. They went down to Delhi 1-3.

Unfortunately, Gujarat couldn’t maintain the previous day’s momentum where they had beaten Mizoram. Last year too, Gujarat boys finished runners-up.

Ahmedabad-based Chitrax Bhatt gave a winning start when he tamed Aadarsh Chetri 15-13 11-8 7-11 5-11 11-8 in a thrilling encounter. In the second rubber, another Amdavadi, Dhairya pitted against Payas Jain went down 5-11 8-11 5-11.

Delhi continued its winning streak in doubles match as well. Aadarsh and Payas were stretched in the third game by Dhairya-Chitrax pair but the Delhi duo managed to win the tie 11-6 12-10 16-14.

In the reverse, Chitrax, showed some fighting spirit as he managed to win a game right under the nose of Payas, but the higher ranked Delhi paddler walked away with the match and gold for his team with a 6-11 13-11 11-9 11-4 scoreline.
