Chitrax wins maiden Men’s title, Filzah wins Youth Girls

For Chitrax the men’s final triumph was the first of his career.

In the Men’s final Chitrax faced Bhavnagar-based and former State champion Jignesh Jayswal. Having lost previous three encounters, the Amdavadi started on a cautious but positive note. Chitrax engaged his senior opponent in rallies before hitting winners. Chitrax dropped just one game enroute to a 11-5 11-9 5-11 11-9 11-7 win.

“I had lost all the three previous matches. But I was confident today. My counter-attack strategy worked and so did the long rallies,” said Chitrax, ecstatic after his memorable win.

Just an hour earlier, Chitrax had overcome Kaushal in all-Bhatt affair Youth Boys final. The lanky Amdavadi toyed with Bhavnagar-based Kaushal Bhatt’s forehand throughout the match. Kaushal never looked comfortable and was guilty of unforced errors, allowing Chitrax to record a straight games 11-5 11-7 12-10 11-5 win. This was second Youth title for Chitrax having won in Jamnagar couple of months ago.

Meanwhile, after a title less trip to Gandhidham last month, Surat’s Filzahfatema was back to her winning ways. In a relatively easy final Filzah outplayed Kausha Bhairapure of Ahmedabad 5-1 11-6 11-7 16-14 11-4. Filzahfatema win her backhand topspin and some clinical forehand winners didn’t allow Kausha to settle. This was third title for the Surti after double – Youth and Junior – in Jamnagar.
