Tanya upsets Prarthna in first round; Nandish survives Kushal scare
The 4th Gujarat State Ranking TT Tournament 2019 begins on an exciting note in Vidhyanagar
Vidhyanagar Sept. 4: The 4th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2019 commenced on a thrilling note here at HM Patel Badminton Hall Vidhyanagar on Wednesday. The first day witnessed quiet a few surprising results, which included exit of women’s third seed and Bhavnagar-based Prarthna Parmar making an early exit.
The tournament is organised by Anand District Table Tennis Association under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association.
In the first-round match, pitted against Tanya Purohit of Surat, Prarthna a title hopeful looked clueless as the Surti didn’t give her any room to attack. Moreover, Tanya also surprised Prarthna with some counterattacks during her straight games win 11-4 13-11 11-9.
Tanya, later, continued her extraordinary form as she advanced into the quarters at the expense of Hetvi Raval of Bhavnagar. Tanya dropped first game 2-11 but recovered in time to record a 2-11 11-5 9-11 11-7 11-4 win. Following Prarthna was Filzahfatema Kadri. In the all-Surat pre-quarter finals, she went down to Aafrien Murad 4-11 11-6 11-7 11-5.
There were no other surprises as Kausha Bhairapure of Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar’s Namna Jayswal kept their title hopes alive with wins over Mili Tanna (Surat) and Charmi Patel (Bhavnagar) respectively.
