Chitrax, Kausha claim Junior titles

Gandhidham, Aug.7: Amdavadis dominated the Junior section as Chitrax Bhatt and Kausha Bhairapure shared honours with Boys’ and Girls’ titles respectively at the GCCI 3rd Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament which concluded at KDTTA Sports Complex Gandhidham on Wednesday.

For Chitrax, who lost the Men’s final, it was a healthy compensation while Kausha completed a grand double at the tournament. Kausha had already won Youth Girls title.

Kausha Bhairapure once again met Filzahfatema Kadri of Surat in the Junior Girls final. They had earlier met in Youth final as well where the Amdavadi had won 4-0. The story was no different in Junior Girls final as Kausha dominated the table to win in straight games 11-4 13-11 11-9 11-7.

Junior Boys’ final was complete contrast and evenly contested when Chitrax faced Abhilash Raval, another Ahmedabad paddler. Both players refused to give easy points and played according to their strengths. It went down to the wire, decider, when it was matter of nerves. Chitrax kept his cool to emerge winner with a 4-11 11-8 11-6 11-7 7-11 9-11 11-4 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Sub Junior Boys and Girls titles were won respectively by Buhranuddin Malubhai of Surat and Rutva Kothari of Bhavnagar.

The Surti defeated Harsh Patel of Ahmedabad 11-6 11-2 10-12 11-4 14-12 with some outstanding service and placements to keep his lanky opponent at bay.

Rutva got the better of Sheli Patel of Baroda 13-11 7-11 6-11 11-6 11-3 11-1. “Almost at halfway mark, when down 1-2, I realised my mistake of giving her juicy loops. There on, I started attacking and played a few flat shots to put her on back foot, which did the trick. In fourth and fifth game she gave me some loopy volleys, which I killed to earn points,” said Rutva, after her win.

Earlier in the Cadet Girls final, Riya Jayswal of Bhavnagar beat Jiya Trivedi of Ahmedabad 11-7 11-3 17-15 9-11 11-5. Riya played with a serve and attack strategy and at times mixed her returns which comprised of heavy top-spin and loop making difficult for Jiya to block. This was second title of the calendar year for Riya after her triumph in season opener at Surat.

On the adjoining table Ahmedabad’s Himansh Dahiya beat his city mate Aaryan Patel 11-4 11-7 11-3 11-7. Being practice partners, Himansh knew Aaryan’s game well. Himansh tactfully avoided Aaryan’s powerful backhand to gain maximum points.

The total cash prize money of the tournament was Rs.80,500/-.

Shri Vimal Gujral, vice-president KDTTA, Mahesh Gupta vice-president KDTTA, Shri Haresh Sangtani TTFI vice-president and GSTTA secretary, founder members Hari Pillai, Kamal Asnani, Mahesh Hingorani, Manish Hingorani, Prashant Buch, Goolrukh Sethna, sports psychologist KDTTA, Charmi Patel, Jitesh Thakkar, Bhoumik Oza and BS Vaghela graced the awards ceremony.
