Upsets galore as unseeded Poojan books semis berth in boys U-19
Unseeded Riyan shows second seed Pratham the door in men’s event
Bhavnagar, June 5: There were upsets galore even as local lad and unseeded paddler Poojan Chandarana surged ahead of the field as he booked his semis place in the boys U-19 category of the Mircosign 1st Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2025 which is organised by Bhavnagar District Table Tennis Association (BDTTA) under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) at SAG Sports Complex, Sidsar Road, Bhavnagar from June 4 to 7.
Furthermore, unseeded Pawan Kumar of Surat swept past top seed and citymate Aayush Tanna to sail through to semis. Another unseeded paddler from Surat, Vivaan Dave brushed aside Taksh Kothari to make it to the last four stages. Aravalli’s Janmejay Patel, seeded fourth, remains the only seeded player in the boys-19 semis line-up.
Apart from the U-19 category, the men’s event witnessed a major upset after unseeded Riyan Dutta of Ahmedabad stunned second seed Pratham Madlani of Vadodara in the men’s round of 32 before crushing Surat’s Nutanshu Dayma 3-0 to storm into the quarterfinal.
Top seed Chitrax Bhatt of Ahmedabad also sailed through to the quarters with a straightforward win over citymate Soham Bhattacharya.
Vadodara’s Jalay Mehta, Aravalli’s Janmejay Patel, Ahmedabad paddlers Abhilash Raval, and Dhairya, Surat’s Ayaz Murad and Jaynil Mehta of Rajkot were the other paddlers who formed the men’s quarter-final line-up.
