Gujarat women settle for bronze at Senior Nationals in Surat

PSPB Clinch Their 27th Men’s Trophy, RSPB pip PSPB for Women’s Gold

Surat, Jan.22: The Gujarat women’s team settled for bronze medal after their 0-3 loss to the mighty Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) team in the women’s team events’ semi-final of the UTT 86th Senior National Inter-State Table Tennis Championships 2024 played at the Pandit Dindayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium from January 19 to 26.

The Championships is organized by Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) and Table Tennis Association of Surat District (TTASD) under the aegis of Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) with the support of Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).

The title sponsor of the event is UTT and the event is powered by Hero, co-sponsored by NJ Group, associate sponsored by Gujarat Tourism, ONGC, Pratibha Group and Airport Authority of India. Stiga will be equipment partners while SIDS Hospital will be the medical partner.

In the women’s semi-final clash, the hosts were totally dominated by PSPB with Oishiki, Krittwika and Frenaz all losing their ties to Yashaswini Ghorpade, Reeth Rishya and Sayali Wani respectively.

In a closely-contented men’s team final, defending champions PSPB team came back from being 0-2 down to defeat RSPB 3-2 to lift the trophy 27th time.

Meanwhile, India no.3 Sutirtha Mukherjee produced a master-class show to help her team Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) pip PSPB 3-2 in yet another humdinger of a final contest.

Women’s semifinal: Gujarat lost to PSPB 0-3 (Oishiki Joardar lost to Yashaswini Ghorpade 5-11, 7-11, 8-11, Krittwika Sinha Roy lost to Reeth Rishya 10-12, 5-11, 9-11, Frenaz Chipia lost to Sayali Wani 8-11, 8-11, 13-11, 5-11).
