Malav, Vishruti win top honours at first-ever sub-junior Prize Money tournament
Gandhidham, Dec.2: After finishing last in Group A of the round-robin matches, Surat’s Vishruti Jadav scripted a fabulous turnaround story to emerge as winner in the girls event of the first-ever sub-junior Prize Money Tournament organised by the Kachchh District Table Tennis Association (KDTTA) under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association (GSTTA) at the Haresh Sangtani Sports Complex, Adipur, Gandhidham on November 30 and December 1.
After the completion of round robin matches, Ahmedabad’s Fiza Pawar topped the girls Group A, followed by Charmy Trivedi, Siddhi Singhvi with Vishruti occupying the last rung. Group B topper was Shivani Dodiya who finished ahead of Khwaish Lotia, Jhanvi Parmar and Anaisha Singhvi.
In the main draw, the Surat paddler Vishruti turned it around and defeated Shivani 3-1 in the quarters, then took out Charmy 3-2 in the semi-finals and eventually got past Khwaish 3-1 (12-10, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9) in the final to walk away with top honours and a winner’s cheque of Rs 7500 with Khwaish receiving Rs 5500.
Group A topper Fiza and Charmy finished in joint third position.
In the boys’ event, Ahmedabad’s Malav Panchal topped Group A with his city mate Jenil Patel in second followed by Ansh Khamar, Nairit Vaidya and Dhruv Bhambhani. In Group B, Vadodara’s Ved Panchal took the pole position followed by Dwij Bhalodia, Hridan Shah, Vihaan Tiwari, Vandan Sutharia and Dhyan Vasavada.
Group toppers Malav and Ved won their main draw encounters to set up a titan clash in the final where Ahmedabad boy Malav pipped Ved 3-1 (11-7, 10-12, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6). to pocket the title and prize money of Rs 7500 while Ved received Rs 5500. Dwij and Hridan finished in joint third position.
With this, a total of Rs 52,400 prize money was given away to top eight players of both events.
