Janmejay, Jalay storm into men’s quarters
Vadodara, July 12: Ninth seed Janmejay Patel of Aravalli booked his men’s quarterfinal berth after a facile 3-0 win over eight seed Monish Dedhia of Ahmedabad on the second day of the IOCL 4th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2024, organised by Table Tennis Association of Baroda District (TTABD) under the aegis of Gujarat State Table Tennis Association, currently underway at the Indoor Sports Complex, Sama in Vadodara here on Friday.
The title sponsor of the tournament is India Oil Corporation Ltd while the co-sponsors are GAIL and Bank of Baroda and is supported by Sports Authority of Gujarat and UTT. Stiga is the equipment partner while VSPF is the venue partner.
In a major upset, 15th seed Ayaz Murad of Surat took out the second seed and local lad Pratham Madlani 3-0 and secured his men’s quarterfinal berth
Men’s top seed Chitrax Bhatt of Ahmedabad had little difficulty in disposing off 16th seed Poojan Chandarana of Bhavnagar and booking his quarterfinal berth.
Third seed Jalay Mehta of Vadodara, fourth seed Jaynil Mehta, fifth seed Akshit Savla, sixth seed Abhilash Raval and seventh seed Arman Shaikh too entered into the quarterfinals of the men’s category.
In the under-17 boys’ quarters, second seed Janmejay, however, was ousted by seventh seed Malav Panchal 0-3. Meanwhile, top seed Aayush Tanna went past eighth seed Taksh Kothari 3-0 to storm into the semi-finals. Third seed Himansh Dahiya and fourth seed Abhilaksh Patel also sealed their last-four berths.
In boys’ U-19, seventh seed Dhyey Jani of Bhavnagar ended second seed Aayush Tanna’s campaign with a nail-biting 3-2 win in the quarterfinals.
