Kutch’s Manya in quarters

Gandhidham Jan’29 : Local paddler Manya Solanki stormed into the Cadet Girls quarterfinals at the Gujarat State Table Tennis Championships 2020 at Gandhidham on Friday. On the first day, all the Cadet category matches were played.

Playing her first competitive tournament, energetic Manya beat Shivani Dodiya of Bhavnagar 11-9 11-9 11-4. Moubini Chatterjee also made it to the last-8 with a 12-10 11-7 11-6 win over Bhavnagar’s Rudri Shukla. Manya and Moubini will join Pratha Pawar, Vidhi Solanki, Pratishta Tosniwal, Hiya Singh, Princy Patel and Jiya Trivedi in the quarters.

In the boys section local boy Vansh Sundrani qualified for the prequarterfinal with a hard fought 7-11 11-6 11-2 12-14 11-4 win against Soumya Deshani of Bhavnagar. However, he couldn’t continue his winning streak and went down to Samarth Shekhawat of Surat 8-11 7-11 4-11.

Interesting contests are on cards as three Surtis and an equal number of Amavadis have reached quarters. Samarth will have the company of his citymates Manav Mehta and Taksh Kothari. The Ahmedabad trio comprises Malav Panchal, Pratham Mehta and Arya Katariya. Vansh Modi (Baroda) and Sujjal Kukadiya (Bhavnagar) complete the boys quarters line up.
