Now, equal prize money for boys & girls

Gandhidham, August 9 : Gujarat State Table Tennis Association has decided on equal prize money for boys and girls from the upcoming season onwards. The decision was one of many important calls taken during the Annual General Meeting held on the online platform on Sunday (August 8, 2021).
The meeting was chaired by president of GSTTA, Shri Vipul Mittra, IAS and was also attended by Senior Vice-President Pramod Choudhary, TTFI CEO Dhanraj Choudhary along with host of GSTTA office bearers and District Association officials.
Owing to the stupendous performance of India’s female athletes at the just concluded Tokyo Olympic Games 2021, GSTTA has decided to encourage female paddlers at the state level.
“Sindhu, Chanu and Lovlina have made the country proud. We too have a talented bunch of female paddlers who we feel can make India proud in the future. To encourage our talented girls, who are at par with boys, GSTTA would like to reward both of them with equal prize money at all the State Ranking Tournaments and Championships,” Mittra stated.
Henceforth, it will be mandatory for a player irrespective of gender and age to attend GSTTA organised camps to be eligible for selection. Moreover, player’s total points at Zonal and National tournaments will also be considered for the selection.
This year onwards the semifinalists will play for the 3rd-4th position matches.
The upcoming Table Tennis season is all set to witness a change. Following the guidelines of Table Tennis Federation of India, GSTTA tournaments will feature U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19 and Senior categories.
It is mandatory for all the paddlers above 18 years to be vaccinated. They will have to submit a certificate before participation. Players, who are under-18 will have to carry an RTPCR Test report and have to undergo Antigen test at the competition venue.
It was also decided that the State Championships 2021 in all the age categories will be held at Haresh Sangtani Sports Complex Gandhidham from August 26 to 30, 2021.
