Youngsters back in the game as action begins at SBI Gujarat State & Inter-District Table Tennis Championship 2021
Gandhidham, Aug 26: Promising talents, rising stars and future prospects were back in action as the opening day of SBI Gujarat State & Inter-District Table Tennis Championship 2021 organised by GSTTA with the support of SAG began with the qualifying rounds in the sub-junior boys and girls categories on Thursday.
Under-15 girls’ qualifying rounds, at the Haresh Sangtani Sports Complex in Gandhidham, saw some close matches as Ahmedabad’s Siddhi Patel recorded a 11-2, 1-11, 5-11, 11-2, 11-6 win over Baroda’s Suzaan Chauhan before recording a 9-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-8, 11-9 win over Bhavnagar’s Jalak Dodia. Siddhi then made it a hattrick of wins after beating Bhavnagar’s Rudri Shukla 11-4, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6.
Bhumi Gohil of Bhavnagar, however, was at her best as she beat Upasana Pillai of Baroda 9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-8 before edging out Surat’s Sanaya Achha 11-9, 11-8, 13-11 in straight games.
Ahmedabad’s Kashish Dey showed sublime form in her 11-4, 11-6, 11-4 win over Surat’s Pratishtha Toshniwal before recording a comfortable 11-3, 11-5, 11-8 win over Bhavnagar’s Vishruti Jadhav.
It was a similar case for Ahmedabad’s Pratha Pawar as she beat Surat’s Aabha Rawat 11-9, 11-4, 11-4 before recording another comfortable 11-2, 11-7, 11-3 win over Shivani Dodia.
Meanwhile, in under-15 boys’ draw, Ahmedabad’s Himansh Dahiya looked at his imperious best as he first edged out Porbander’s Dharmin Paun 11-4, 11-3, 11-5 before breezing past Surat’s Yug Parmar 11-5, 11-4, 11-6.
Surat’s Vivaan Dave too looked in flow as he edged out Kuchchh’s Yash Singh 11-4, 11-3, 11-2 before registering a 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 win over Baroda’s Nitya Shah.
Bhavnagar’s Sanket Shah withstood a change in fortune but hold firm as he first beat Amreli’s Het Thakkar 11-7, 11-5, 11-6 before overcoming a stiff challenge from Ahmedabad’s Pratham Mehta for a 11-9, 5-11, 13-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-2 win.
It was a similar scenario for Baroda’s Abhlaksh Patel as he began with a 11-8, 11-6, 11-9 win over Bhavnagar’s Yug Andhariya before came from a two games down to beat Ahmedabad’s Avneesh Bhave for a 8-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-6, 12-10 win.
Surat’s Neev Khivsera faced little challenge as he started with a 11-8, 14-12, 13-15, 11-9 win over Bhavnagar’s Vandan Sutharia before registering a 8-11, 12-10, 11-2, 11-6 win over Ahmedabad’s Vihaan Tiwari.
