Ahmedabad, Feb 21 : Gujarat veteran paddlers had a wonderful outing in the 26th Masters National Table Tennis Championships which concluded at the Abhay Prashal, Indore. Participating in various categories, Gujarat bagged two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
It was 40+ Women’s doubles event where Gujarat bagged the first gold. Neha Patel and Prasunna Parekh defeated Neeta Vaishnav and Uttara Panse of MP 11-4 11-7 11-6 in the title round. Prasunna also contributed with a silver. In a thrilling 40+ singles final, Prasunna went down to Meena Basak 9-11 11-2 7-11 11-7 8-11.
Another gold came in the 70+ mixed doubles event. In the summit clash, Baldev Vaghela and Jyotsna Joshi outplayed a Maharashtra pair comprising Preeti Pardeshi and Satish Kulkarni 11-5 11-9 11-8.
Interestingly, Vaghela also had two medals to his credit. He was instrumental in 65+ Men’s Gujarat A team’s bronze-winning effort. The other members of the team were Shambhaji Tawde, Abhay Onkar, Balvant Kansara and Prakash Raval. Gujarat A went down to eventual champions Maharashtra A.
The 40+ Men’s team – Gujarat A – comprising Malay Thakkar, Hiral Mehta, Sikandar Jam, Gaurav Doshi and Monty Vyas won the second bronze. They lost their semifinals against Maharashtra A.
